Following consultation with the community around the parish of All Saints Thirkleby a new charity has been formed and named ‘All Saints Together’. The purpose of the charity is to retain and enhance All Saints Church as a community asset for everyone to enjoy.
Purpose
The purposes include the restoration, preservation, repair, maintenance, improvement and beautification of All Saints, Thirkleby, and of the monuments, fittings, fixtures, stained glass, furniture, ornaments and chattels in the church, churchyard and grounds, and Parish Hall and grounds belonging to the Church. And to promote wide interest in the care and preservation of the Church and its history.
The charity is a separate entity from the Parochial Church Council (although the PCC will always be represented) and aims to hold interesting events to raise funds and give grants to the PCC of All Saints Thirkleby exclusively for the purposes as above, and to generally assist those responsible for the care and maintenance of the Church buildings and grounds.
All Saints Together hopes to draw membership from the local community, those who have a past connection with All Saints Church and those who have an interest purely in the fabric of this beautiful historic church building.

Military Wives Charity Concert promises to hit the right note!
The first concert of the year for a much-loved choir in North Yorkshire looks set to boost two local charities.
Dishforth Military Wives Choir has chosen a beautiful rural church, with stunning surroundings and acoustics, for its inaugural 2023 event – ‘Celebrating Song’. The evening will be jam packed with song and celebration and the profits will be shared between the church fundraising group and Herriot Hospice@The Lambert.
Ruth Sladden, the choir’s Music Director says the concert programme offers something for everyone: “From a Bette Midler classic to an Adele smash hit, from songs celebrating nature, to songs which reflect the strong relationships forged within the wide network of Military Wives Choirs, such as the aptly named Stronger Together (the song which launched the choir network ten years ago) and Carry Me (written for the women overseas). The programme of music will also include a nod or two to the beautiful red flower of remembrance, the poppy.”
The choir’s PR Lead, Philippa Graham, added: “We are all looking forward to singing in All Saints in Thirkleby. It is close to us and to have the opportunity to support the church and its community is exciting. The intimacy of a small church will make it a wonderful occasion and provides us with another opportunity to support our communities. It’s all the more special to know that half the profits will also go to the Herriot Hospice@The Lambert too, a very worthy cause indeed.”
Looking ahead to the concert, Tony Collins, Chief Executive of Herriot Hospice@The Lambert said: “We are grateful to have been chosen by All Saints Together to receive some of the funds from what promises such a wonderful evening of entertainment. The church and the hospice both have a very special place in the hearts of many local people, and we look forward to welcoming lots of people to join us on March the 25th.”
Herriot Hospice Homecare is a local charity which supports people living with terminal illness and their families in their own homes and it aims to open the doors of the new hospice in autumn this year.
Herriot Hospice@The Lambert will feature inpatient beds, rooms for bereavement and emotional wellbeing support, and a community hub and café. It will also provide a permanent base for the charity’s existing ‘HOME’ service.
All Saints Together is a charity set up two years ago to try and make sure the beautiful village church in Great Thrikleby, and its grounds, remain open and accessible for the local community and beyond.
All Saints Together committee member, Gill Walmsley said: “Anyone who has seen All Saints Church will have been charmed by it, and we want to make sure it remains a special place for everyone.
“Over the last year we have hosted some terrific events which have been well supported, including a candlelit concert and a truly unique Yorkshire evening with the Bishop of Whitby and local lad, Peter, The Yorkshire Vet!
“‘Celebrating Song’ with the amazing ladies of The Dishforth Military Wives Choir will be another unforgettable evening, making the most of the church’s outstanding acoustics and ambience.
“The committee is very pleased to also be supporting Herriot Hospice @The Lambert, an exciting local project which is very close to the hearts of our community.”
“We look forward to welcoming new people, returning visitors and those with present and past connections. In Thirkleby we are famed for our warm welcome and we can’t wait to extend that to everyone in a few weeks’ time once again.”
Tickets are on sale now and available to buy over the counter from the Herriot Hospice charity shop at 14 Market Place in Thirsk, via email by contacting allsaintstogetherthirkleby@gmail.com or over the phone by contacting Gill Walmsley on 07969 517002. North Yorkshire Military Wives Concert Boosts Thirsk Charities
Ambitious plans to support families around Thirsk by Herriot Hospice Homecare and a quaint rural village church are to benefit by nearly £700 each, thanks to a sell-out charity concert. Dishforth Military Wives Choir raised the rafters with a rousing performance at All Saints Church in Thirkleby, which included the chance for the audience to sing along.
It was the latest in a series of events staged by the church’s fundraising committee, All Saints Together (AST). The group was established last year to help secure the future of the small rural church, which stands just off the A19 in Thirkleby.
Following the concert committee member Gill Walmsley said: “When we set our charity up we made a conscious decision not to just appeal for money but to run a programme of events to show off our beautiful church and raise funds that way. So far so good! Feedback is really positive and the support from local people has been terrific.
“This time we decided to split the profits with another local cause that’s very close to our hearts, Herriot Hospice@The Lambert and we are thrilled to be able to present them with a cheque for £696.13! That’s what North Yorkshire is all about – communities and causes supporting each other.
Chief executive of Herriot, Tony Collins said: “We are very grateful to All Saints Together and the Dishforth Military Wives Choir for their kindness in supporting us.
“This donation will bring us a step closer to our plans to open Herriot Hospice@The Lambert later this year. Thank you to everyone involved.”
Katy Clark, Dishforth Military Wives Choir Events Lead said: “It was a pleasure to be welcomed by All Saints Together and the Thirkleby church community for our first concert of 2023.
“It was a really enjoyable, relaxed concert and we love it when the audience participation is taken up so enthusiastically!
“We are closely connected to Herriot Hospice as two of our members work with them, so we were honoured to provide the entertainment and congratulate All Saints Together on a successful evening!”
Gill Walmsley continues: “Our next event is Marske Fishermen’s choir on the 15th of September and there is already a lot of interest in tickets, which is brilliant. We welcome new friends, as well those who have supported our previous events, so please come and join us for another super evening of music and song.”

Songs of the Sea Hope to Turn the Tide for Thirsk Church
It’s hoped a wave of support will follow in the wake of the announcement that the renowned Marske Fishermen’s Choir will perform at a beautiful rural church near Thirsk next month.
For more than 50 years the choir has performed all over the UK and across Europe. On Friday 15th September, its unique Leader, Squeakers, Groaners and Grunters will fill All Saints’ Church in Thrikleby with sea songs and shanties, popular songs and perhaps a hymn or two. All profits from the evening will be shared between local charities, Herriot Hospice@The Lambert and All Saints Together.
Bill Porritt, Marske Fishermen’s Choir’s Musical Director says it promises to be a very special occasion: “Over the years we have performed at many wonderful venues and settings including York Minster and even on Songs of Praise from Liverpool but there is something wonderful about a small rural church.
“We will fill All Saints with a raft of songs of the sea and we are very much looking forward to the famous Thirkleby welcome that we have heard about! We are really pleased to be coming, and to be supporting two such worthy charities.”
This will be the latest in a series of events staged by the church’s fundraising committee, All Saints Together (AST). The group was established in 2022 to help secure the future of the small rural church, which stands just off the A19 in Thirkleby.
AST Committee member Carolyn Potter said: “All Saints is beautiful, with spectacular acoustics and stunning stained-glass windows – all of which make it the perfect venue for concerts like this.
“This is our way of showing off our tiny corner of North Yorkshire and making sure it’s here for generations to come. Everyone who comes is charmed by All Saints and we are just thrilled to be welcoming Marske Fishermen’s Choir.
“Events like this bring communities together and make us all smile – please come and join us for a night to remember.”
Earlier this year AST hosted Dishforth Military Wives Choir for a sell-out concert which raised nearly £1,500. Profits were also split between Thirsk charity Herriot Hospice@The Lambert and AST.
Herriot Hospice Homecare is a local charity which supports people living with terminal illness and their families in their own homes and it aims to open the doors of the new hospice this autumn. Herriot Hospice@The Lambert will feature inpatient beds, rooms for bereavement and emotional wellbeing support, and a community hub and café. It will also provide a permanent base for the charity’s existing ‘HOME’ service.
Lucy Turner, Community and Events Manager for Herriot Hospice Homecare said:
“Support like this means so much to us. The funds raised from the concert will help ensure we can grow a team of nurses and professionals to offer care from this very special site and help us add the essential touches to make our hospice a real home from home, thank you!”
